Totally Techniques: Masking

Good morning stampers!  This month's technique is called Masking. Wait until you see the Totally Techniques Design Team in action this week!!!!

Stampin' Up! Balloon Builders

My card this week features the Balloon Builders stamp set by Stampin' Up!  It's the Masking Technique and one that you can do rather quickly as it's a one layer card!

Masking Technique

Covering previously stamped images, and then stamping over them/near them/around them so they appear in front and the newly stamped image(s) to the back.

Notice the multiple layers of balloons in my card.

Quick Steps On Making This Card

• Vertical, top fold card, base in Whisper White.
• Stamp the first few balloons in Flirty Flamingo.
• Then stamp a few of the same size balloons on scrap and punch them out (with Balloon punch).
• Then use those punched out balloons to cover the balloons you just stamped.
• Then stamp more balloons in Tip Top Taupe with the larger balloon stamp in Balloon Builders.
• Stamp the balloon strings in Tip Top Taupe.
• Then stamp a few more balloons in different sizes on scrap using Daffodil Delight ink, and then punch them out.  Adhere to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals. 
• Stamp greeting in Tip Top Taupe.
• You can leave as is or continue....
• Using a Blender Pen (or you can use an Aqua Painter), color the background of the card in Soft Sky ink.
• Add some bling with Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Stampin' Up! Birthday Blooms

My card this week features the Birthday Blooms stamp set by Stampin' Up!  Believe it or not, this card is LOADED with different products from the Textured Impressions Folder to Washi Tape to Dazzling Details to water coloring and the SpotLight technique!

Spotlight Technique

In short, the Spotlight Technique is where you only color part(s) of a stamped image, essentially highlighting certain "spots" of your card.  There are different variations and all fun and I'm sure you'll see many today during the hop!

Quick Steps On Making This Card

• 5" Square card in Peekaboo Peach.
• Bottom 1/2 is embossed with the Lovely Lace embossing folder.
• Then a black/vanilla piece of Playful Palette DSP adhered across the center (1-3/4 x 5).
• Stamp the floral image in StazOn.
• Sponge Soft Sky around the floral image.
• Watercolor with Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo on the petals, the center is Daffodil Delight.  Then sprinkle the center with Dazzling Details.
• Adhere Washi Tape to the left side of the focal panel, two strips.
• Tear right top edge.
• Adhere focal panel to Basic Black mat.
• Tear right top edge of mat.
• Adhere focal panel using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Totally Techniques: Stencil

Good morning stampers!

This month's technique is called Stenciling. Wait until you see the Totally Techniques Design Team in action this week --- Ah-MAZING!!!!! WOW!

My card this week features the Butterfly Basics Bundle and I created my own stencils with the 2 Butterfly Punches (Bitty Butterfly and Elegant Butterfly), and actually used the Butterfly Framelit as a stencil too!

I'm going to go into the tutorial on creating this card, so I'm adding this section here so you can quickly go through the hop if you wanted to skip the tutorial LOL.  Enjoy :D

Stamping Tutorial: Butterfly Basics / Stencil

Start with your focal panel. My paper started at 5-1/4 x 4 but keep in mind I do later trim it to 5 x 3-3/4.

I punched out the 2 butterflies in Whisper White, and placed the framelit (to use as a stencil).

I used a sponge and Soft Sky around the butterflies and to create a soft background color.  Then you can see I begin to color the large butterfly with Daffodil Delight.

I finished coloring the large butterfly with Bermuda Bay and Cucumber Crush, and used a Dauber to do that.

I lifted all the butterflies.

Next I then use the Whisper White paper where the Bitty and Elegant Butterflies were punched from, and use that as my stencil to continue.

 

Here, you can see I colored one butterfly with Bermuda Bay and Cucumber Crush (top left); and the other with Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay (and it makes a shade of green itself).  I used the Daubers to try and get heavy, deep color.

I also added one at the bottom, using the Bitty Butterfly stencil, Bermuda Bay and Cucumber Crush inks, however it ends up getting trimmed out of my final card.

Next you can see I placed back the original masks for the Bitter and Elegant Butterfly punched shapes, and then created a mask for the large butterfly (with scrap I had lying around).

I'm going to use the Fern from the Butterfly Basics set and stamp over/around the masks.

Instead of removing the masks after I stamped the ferns, I decided to keep them!  I adhered them using Stampin' Dimensionals.

One of the last pieces is the large die cut butterfly.  I used Whisper White but the colored it using a Dauber with Bermuda Bay, Cucumber Crush, and then filled with Daffodil Delight.  This is then adhered using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I then trimmed the card panel to 5 x 3-3/4.

For the greeting, I used the Thoughts and Banners Bundle.  I stamped the banner in Bermuda Bay, and then the word CELEBRATE in Cucumber Crush.  The greeting is placed at the bottom of the Ferns using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Then, on the card base, I sponged the left side of with Bermuda Bay.

Then adhered the focal panel to the card base using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Floating Re-Inker Technique: Totally Techniques

Good morning stampers!

This month's technique is called Floating Re-Inker Technique! Wait until you see the Totally Techniques Design Team in action this week --- Ah-MAZING!!!!! WOW!

I'm sticking with the Neutrals this week (the Butterfly Basics card yesterday), inspired by a Color Challenge a few weeks ago...and stay tuned... another Technique Challenge tomorrow!!!

Today's mix is Chocolate Chip, Sahara Sand
and a bit of Timeless Elegance!

Floating Re-Inker Technique

This was my very FIRST time attempting this technique as I'm intimidated by the Aqua Painter LOL - but I was so excited :D  I watched Sandi MacIver's video on it inside Stamping and Blogging, and look what came out of it!

I'm loving this technique....finally a technique where I won't be afraid to use my Aqua Painter!!!!


Instructions:

1. I made sure to get my embossing buddy and use it on the Watercolor Paper.
2. Then inked the stamp with Versa Mark.
3. Covered with White Embossing powder. Shake off excess powder.
4. Heat image.
5. Then prep for the class, getting your re-inker wells ready.  I actually used little medicine measuring cups lol  I have young kids so every time I buy them Children's Advil (liquid) I get a new measuring cup lol.  GREAT for this type of project.
6. Dilute the ink a little w/ 2 -3 drops of water.
7. Since I wasn't going to cut out this image, I had to be careful not to extend past the embossed lines...so I couldn't use a spritzer to wet the entire piece of paper.  Instead, I got it wet using my Aqua Painter (but not to create water wells).
8. Then, while the flower was wet, and grabbing ink from the Sahara Sand ink well, I dropped it onto the flower and watched it bleed to cover the petals.
9. Then did the same with Chocolate Ship.
10. Filled in any blank/white space with the aqua painter (Sahara Sand).
11. I didn't have excess water (since I didn't use a spritzer) and it was drying fast....so I just ended up heating it when the flower was done.
12. Then repeated the same technique to finish the leaves.
13. To complete the card, I cut a piece of Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper (DSP) and adhered to the card base.
14. Wrapped a piece of Sahara Sand around the bottom (no knot).
15. Mount the focal panel with Stampin' Dimensionals.
16. Stamp greeting in Basic Black.
17. Mat the greeting with Sahara Sand paper and adhere to front panel with Stampin' Dimensionals.
18. Lastly, add a splash of color by tucking a piece of the Watermelon Wonder Satin Stitched Ribbon.

Totally Techniques: Water Coloring

Good morning stampers!

This month's technique is called Watercoloring Technique! It's a really fun and you are going to see some really beautiful cards from the Totally Techniques Design Team!

Water Coloring Technique

Well, I'm not master at this, but I try and am getting better! But I do love the Color Combo I ended up with - Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron, Basic Gray.

I am much more comfortable with the Blender Pen, which I used for the stem and leaves.  However, I did use the Aqua Painter on the flower, lightly coloring the flower in a light shade of Calypso Coral; then re-applying darker towards the center of the flower.

If you're a Stamping and Blogging Member, Sandi MacIver has a ton of different water coloring video techniques to show you.... step by step...and they are WOW!!!

To make this card:

1. I stamped the Floral image with Staz-On Black ink.
2. Then colored with the Aqua Painter and Calypso Coral.  First lightly covering the flower in a lighter shade of Calypso Coral. Then apply more and more to the center of the flower for a darker look.
3. Using the Blender Pend, the center is Crushed Curry but gets covered by Rhinestones!  The Stem is in Mint Macaron.
4. I also used the Aqua Painter and Mint Macaron to lightly shade around the stamped floral image, but intentionally letting you see the brush strokes.
5. Then stamped with the background stamp in the You've Got This stamp set around the edges fo the focal panel, again using Mint Macaron.
6. Matted the focal panel in Basic Gray.
7. Stamped the greeting and matted with Basic Gray.
8. On the Card Base, which is Basic Gray, I adhered a 4 x 5-1/4 piece of the Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper in gray....it matched perfectly with the softness of the card.

Totally Techniques: Bouncing Brayer

Good morning stampers!

This month's technique is called Bouncing Brayer Technique! It's a really fun and you can do a lot of different things with it as you'll see from the Totally Techniques Design Team! This was my first time trying this technique...what do you think?

At first, it may not look like the Bouncing Brayer, but check out my instructions / mini tutorial below and you'll see how it can be used; and for me it's camouflaged in the Timeless Elegance Designer Paper and then somewhat covered with the Whisper White frame.

Instructions:

1. Start with a scrap piece of Very Vanilla card stock and use the Bouncing Brayer in Crushed Curry, then add Calypso Coral and then add Watermelon Wonder (as in the pictures below).
2. Then rinse the Brayer and then go back and add more Crushed Curry to desired brightness.
3. This is practice! And you'll then stamp butterflies on them in Basic Black in (so the paper and practice isn't wasted!).  Cut out the butterflies and you'll adhere them last.
4. Then do the same Bouncing Brayer technique and coloring on a piece of  Timeless Elegance Designer Paper.
5. Cut a piece 4 x 5-1/4 piece of Whisper White and use a medium Label framelit to make the frame (that was used frame the roses in the Timeless Elegance Designer Paper in the images above).
6. Then use the Mosaic Texture Impressions Folder to add embossing to the Whisper White card stock. Then adhere the Whisper White embossed paper onto the Timeless Elegance paper using Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Run a piece of Watermelon Wonder lace ribbon through the panel and tie in a knot.
8. Then adhere the focal point to the card base (which is in Basic Black).
9. Stamp, mat and adhere the greeting.
10. Adhere the butterflies where desired (using Stampin' Dimensionals).
11. Add some bling!  I have one Rhinestone on the large butterfly.

Bouncing Brayer Technique

Hoping these pictures help.  It's really a lot of fun :D

Start with some paper and then your lightest color. In my example, I used Crushed Curry.  And roll and lift, roll and lift, roll lift (bouncing).

Then ink the Brayer with the next color, such as Calypso Coral in this example.  Roll and lift, Roll and lift. Bounce as desired.

Then add another ink, Watermelon Wonder. I actually did roll on scrap paper a few times so the Watermelon Wonder wouldn't be too dark.

Then I actually washed the Brayer and added more Crushed Curry to brighten and finish.

Then I stamped some butterflies from Butterfly Basics stamp set and cut them out (to later adhere to the card focal panel (with Stampin' Dimensionals).

NOTE: Because I chose the darker, rose pattern in the Timeless Elegance Designer Paper, you don't see the center area where the end of the Brayer meets, like a star burst.  I also did a little lighter.  But you can see how you can make the color really pop if you want to!
